The Origins of Demeter
Demeter is based on the ideas of Rudolf Steiner, founder of anthroposophy. In 1924, he gave a series of agricultural courses advocating a holistic approach to farming: not just the soil and crops, but also animals, people, and cosmic influences together form one living organism. This vision led to biodynamic agriculture and eventually to the Demeter certification.
